often fly away before I can get close enough.Īny 180-200mm macro lenses that work great on A7R2 via adapter? I already have the excellent Sony 90mm f/2.8 Macro, but the working distance is rather short for skittish and spooky insects - dragonflies, etc. Please suggest an adapted lens with long working distance for insects macro photography. I have also adapted a number of microscope-style macro lenses to the Sony system and they work well when higher magnification is desired and conditions are suitable. I still prefer 200mm for insects but a tripod is recommended for this work. Perhaps Sigma will make a dedicated Sony E-mount version of this lens in the future. I had no success trying to use the Nikon version. The Sigma 150/2.8 macro is another lens that might be considered - it would likely be best to use a Minolta A version on the Sony LA-EA3. I purchased the Minolta 200 macro and used it for a few years until a proper functioning Nikon smart adapter was available I am now going back to using my Nikon 200 macro, Nikon adapters that operate the mechanical linkage for the diaphragm on Sony E cameras are a very tricky design and there have been a number of issues with earlier versions of these. The converter firmware is field up-gradeable but best not to change it if the current version is working. I found the Commlite on EBAY for under $200 a bargain compared to the $350 I spent on my first ( fotodiox) one. These same adapters work nicely with my Nikon 300mm F4 PF AF-S lens with AF and VR modes. The Commlite Smart V6 and the similar ( identical.) Fotodiox Pro Smart AF adapter seem to work well. Using Nikon lenses on a Sony requires careful check of converter compatibility with specific bodies. I used the Nikon 200 for many years on my Nikon system and actually prefer its rotating collar over the Minolta lens which has a poorly designed collar. Interestingly these 2 lenses are said to have identical optical designs. I am using the A7Riii.Īlso - the very similar ( but uncommon) Minolta 200mm F4 APO Macro A- mount lens on a Sony LA-EA3 converter.īoth lenses are virtually equal in capability and will work in manual focus only on the A7Riii - which is preferable anyway. I use the Nikon 200mm F4.0 Micro Nikkor AF-D on a Commlite Nikon to SonyE automated converter with V6 firmware.
