As long as all the players agree to the 'house rule' it's just a variant ruleset. So I consider stuff like difficulty/storyteller/scenarios etc. to be entirely a matter of taste as to difficulty preferences. So I have used 'prepared carefully' precisely because I'm not prepared to bring along 'liabilities'. I've not had it in 1.4 since it wasn't updated for my playthrough, but gene mods get some of the same outcomes IMO (including with a 'disable restrictions' button). I've switched to Character Editor, to do the same thing post 'drop' - but I also removed it again later.įor me, there's things I won't do - but more because of taste than anything:Ĭharacter Editor can 'Prepare Carefully' my starting pawns, but nothing else. It can also fix things I think are bugged, like children of tribals not having 'natural' psyfocus. But it gets uninstalled after each use, so I'm not temped to 'fiddle'. I don't use 'tricks' when setting up my killzones. A courtyard for fighting in is on the cards, but stuff that messes with the AI is a step too far. Stuff like emping through walls, that kind of thing - I'll turn down my difficulty setting instead of doing that. My mods are mostly cosmetic or minor 'fixes'. I like playing as vanilla as possible, so right now that's Replace Stuff, Speech Bubbles, Doormats and because Mechs seem to be lag causing horrors, 'Mechs Recharge When Idle'. ![]() Not adverse to performance mods either particularly.īut at the same time. Make your story as hard or as easy as you like. About the only time I feel it matters is when you're doing some pawn min-maxing, and 'just vanilla' vs. 'modded' is a difference, and only then when you're bragging about it.Mod Spotlight is a series where I dive into mods from different video games and talk about some of the great features they bring to the game. It allows greater freedom when starting a new game. You can decide on you colonists’ names, appearances, starting items and also attributes. Great for having a starting group of people you dreamed of, or for when your team is desperately missing a doctor and you do not feel like clicking the randomize button over and over again. It is great for roleplay scenarios as it allows you to custom build your team exactly how you want them. Perhaps you want a one-armed street urchin, fighting from the bottom to survive in your next playthrough. Perhaps an army of super-soldiers right off the bat to make the game a little bit easier to start. The choice is yours.Ī screenshot of EdB Prepare Carefully mod ![]()
